Tokoname Clay Shunjugama Pine Bark Vermillion Japanese Kyusu Tea Pot – 180ml

This is a  vermillion coloured clay kyusu (teapot) with a pine bark texture fired at the Shunjugama kiln in Tokoname, Aichi, Japan. Ideal for brewing any Japanese teas for 1-4 people. Japanese tea is often finer, smaller leafed, or broken up more than other teas which makes it unsuitable for Chinese style teapots, due to the straining holes being too large. The built-in ceramic strainer in this teapot is perfect for stopping those fine tea leaves getting into your cup.

Some notes on this product:

  • This is made of unglazed clay, this means it will subtly affect the taste of the tea brewed in it, and will over time pickup oils from the tea affecting the taste.
  • This kyusu was made in Japan.
  • Currently the only available design is that pictured.
  • Before using for the first time rinse the teapot several times with hot water to wash-off any residue left-over from manufacturing or packaging.
  • To clean rinse with hot water (boiling water is ideal), dab the exterior dry with a clean tea towel, carefully shake any water out. Then leave to air-dry with the lid off.
  • Not microwave or dishwasher safe.
  • Do not use detergent to wash this teapot, hot (ideally boiling) water is enough.
  • Three of this product are available and there will be minor manufacturing differences between the three.
