This is a medium sized 185ml teapot ideal for brewing for 3-4 people made from Zitao clay produced in Jianshui, Yunnan, China. Zitao means purple clay, but it actually refers to a mixture of five different colours of clay found in Jianshui. Tthe caligraphy can be roughly translated to “Peaceful”. I believe the fruit tree depicted is a date plum, a relative of the persimmon. The name used to describe this teapot is “Xi Shi” the name of one of the Four Beauties of ancient China.

Some notes on this product:

  • This is made of unglazed Zitao clay, this means it will subtly affect the taste of the tea brewed in it, and will over time pickup oils from the tea affecting the taste.
  • This teapot was handrafted in Jianshui, Yunnan, China
  • Currently the only available design is that pictured.
  • This teapot has been used a few times to wash off manufacturing dust and make sure there are no unpleasant flavours in the clay, rinse several times with hot water before use.
  • To clean rinse with hot water (boiling water is ideal), dab the exterior dry with a clean tea towel, shake any water inside out, then leave to air-dry with the lid off.
  • Not microwave or dishwasher safe.
  • Do not use detergent to wash this teapot, hot (ideally boiling) water is enough.
  • Only one of this product is available.
