This is a medium sized porcelain gaiwan produced and hand-painted in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, China. This is an ideal gaiwan for 1-3 person sessions. The artwork on this gaiwan depicts Zhong Kui a Taoist deity in Chinese mythology known for vanquishing ghosts and evil beings, and commanding tens of thousands of demons. He’s a popular figure in Chinese media and art of him is often put on household gates or places of business to help keep things safe.
Some notes on this product:
- The lid /rim placement is a little unusual, let me know if you need advice using this gaiwan.
- Because it’s made of porcelain, a neutral material, it won’t affect the taste of the tea like unglazed materials might.
- The stated volume of 130ml is measured with no leaves in the gaiwan and the water filled to just under where the lid sits, so in reality it will fit more like 110-120ml of water with tea leaves inside.
- There is a only one of this gaiwan available.
- Before using for the first time rinse the gaiwan with hot water to wash-off any residue left-over from manufacturing or packaging.
- To clean, rinse with hot water (boiling water is ideal), and dry quickly with a clean, thick tea towel. Wash shortly after use to avoid any stains (but if there are stains you can easily scrub them out).
