A Chashaku is a traditional scoop used for measuring portions of matcha. The default quantity for a bowl (50-70ml) is 2 heaped scoops. While a teaspoon might suffice with a chashaku it’s easier to gauge the amount of matcha you’re adding, it has a lot of aesthetic value. You can also use the chashaku to help break up clumps of matcha in the chasen (before adding water).

Some notes on this product:

  • This is made of bamboo
  • This was manufactured in China.
  • The only design is that pictured, though your chashaku may vary slightly from the photos due to minor manufacturing differences.
  • Do not wash with water or allow the chashaku to get wet. Getting it wet will cause matcha to soak into the wood and will cause stains and may encourage mould growth or wood rot. If you preheat your bowl make sure it’s dry before touching it with the chashaku.
  • After using simply wipe clean with a dry cloth or paper towel (having 1 small dedicated cloth for this is a good idea).
